Alex boys’ track finishes runner-up

Mitch Peck and John Vogeler both earned individual Central Lakes Conference championships on Thursday to lead the Alexandria boys’ track and field team to a second place finish at the CLC outdoor championship in Willmar.

Peck earned conference championships in the 300 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash while Vogeler took first in the long jump. As a team, the Cardinals scored 115 to finish in second place behind Brainerd’s mark of 134. Sartell finished third with a score of 100.

Head coach Mike Empting felt the Cardinals used its best effort to take second in the CLC meet Thursday.

“The boys really performed well and rose to the occasion and left it all out there,” head coach Mike Empting said.

The Cardinals had five other all-conference award winners in the meet. Peck added a second place finish in the 110 hurdles and Vogeler finished third in the 100 meter dash. Joe Gorghuber finished just behind Peck in the 110 meter hurdles with a third place finish.

Aaron Runge took third in the 3,200 meter run and Colin Guetter took third in the discus.

A total of 10 individuals and two relay teams took all-conference honorable mention for the Cardinals. Gorghuber followed his all-conference award with a fourth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles and a fifth place finish in the triple jump.

Vogeler grabbed fifth place in the high jump along with his other all-conference marks.

Mitch Meier finished sixth in the 300 meter hurdles, Colton Sailor grabbed sixth in the 800 meter run, Austin Thom finished fifth in the 3,200 meter run and Jimmy Pfeffer finished sixth in the 1,600 meter run.

In the throwing events, Aaron Steidl took fourth in the shot put, Mitch Maday took fifth in the shot put and Brett Ludwig took sixth in the discus.

Honorable mention relay teams included the 4x800 and 4x100 teams. The 4x100 team of Jacob Vukelich, Jude Pelowski, Elliot Jacobson and Vogeler took third, and the 4x800 team of Sailor, Casey Call, Jesse Groettum and Grant Rudolph finished in third.
