Cardinals defeat Sauk Rapids 14-9

A 14-9 victory for the Alexandria baseball team Tuesday on the road against Sauk Rapids-Rice gave the Cardinals at least a share of the Central Lakes Conference title for a second straight season.

The Cardinals’ offense rolled on Tuesday as they picked up 18 hits against the Storm. Casey Hammerback had four of those hits as he picked up three doubles in the game and drove in two RBIs. Parker Bowden led the offense with four RBIs on the night and other players who drove in two RBIs each were Grant Toivonen and Parker Revering.

The Cardinals showed speed on the base paths, picking up 12 stolen bases in the game. Toby Helgeson and Mitch Thompson both grabbed three steals.

Bowden picked up the win on the mound as he went 4 2/3 innings and allowed four earned runs. Chris Leary came on in relief, and Mitch Thompson also pitched 1 1/3 innings to pick up the save.
