Alex boys golf 13th at St. Cloud

The Alexandria boys’ golf team found itself in an unusual position in the middle of the pack in the Central Lakes Conference after finishing 13th out of a 20-team field at the St. Cloud Invite on Thursday.

The meet also served as a CLC meet with Alexandria shooting a 331. Marshall won the meet with a 302. Conference foes Brainerd (315), St. Cloud Tech (316), Fergus Falls (317), Willmar (324) and Sartell (330) all finished ahead of the Cardinals at the meet.

“We had some sickness hit the team and were missing a couple of players,” head coach Rick Larson said. “I think the compact season and playing in some rough spring weather took its toll. But, this did give a couple of younger players some varsity experience.”

Lukas Bigger led Alexandria with a round of 77.

“Lukas had a great round going until a triple bogey on a par three with five holes to play set him back a little but he still shot a solid 77,” Larson said.

Aaron Johnson was next in line for the Cardinals with an 83. Jared Lind and Chad Blank both filled in for those out with sicknesses and counted their scores with rounds of 85 and 86, respectively. Cole Haugen and Will Odland both shot 87s to round out the Alexandria lineup.

The Cardinals are in fifth place in the CLC standings with one meet left. They have 24 points. Fergus Falls is first with 31 and Tech is second with 29 points.

The Cardinals will host the conference championship meet at the Alexandria Golf Club on Thursday. Teams will tee off at 4 p.m.
