Facing the top ranked team in Class AAA, the Alexandria girls' golf team took second place on Wednesday afternoon in an invitational hosted by the Alexandria Golf Club.

Wayzata took first place in the meet with a score of 332, followed by Alexandria in second at 347, Minnewaska third at 379 and Osakis in fourth at 380.

Wayzata’s Sarah Burnham took first place with a score of 73, followed by Amanda Bigger with a score of 78. Although she finished in second, Bigger felt a few more greens in regulation would have helped shave some shots off the scorecard.

“I hit one green on the front, so that was kind of a downer, and couldn’t get up and down a few times,” Bigger said. “The back went better, still a few shots I could have improved. I missed a couple of putts, but my score looks fine.”

Other Cardinals who finished in the top 10 were Emily Thul in fifth place with a score of 86 and Natalie Amundson in sixth with a score of 88. Allison Schwartz and Lauren Stockmoe both shot scores of 95 to round out the Alexandria top four

Osakis’ Annalise Savageau tied for seventh place with a score of 89. Alayna Eldred finished second among Osakis golfers with a score of 90, followed by Peyton Garcia with a 96 and Ariel Chalmers at 105.

Eldred said her round was a steadily mediocre one at AGC on Wednesday.

“I was pretty consistent with straight bogeys, then I would get a par, then I’d get a double bogey,” Eldred said. “I would come back from that, but I just I wasn’t on today.”
