Cardinals tennis falls in Fergus Falls

The Alexandria boys’ tennis team kicked off the spring season with a 6-1 loss on the road Tuesday to Central Lakes Conference opponent Fergus Falls.

The lone win for the Cardinals came from the first doubles team of Brendan Holm and Levi Duwenhoegger, who came from behind to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-4.

“They were able to consistently hold serve, which gave them the advantage in two sets,” head coach Dave Ronning said.

Alexandria’s Devin Crowe kept his match close at first singles through the first set, falling 7-5 before his opponent David Schneck turned up his game to win the final 12 out of 14 games.

The Cardinals hope to continue improving as they get more practice time outside with the warmer weather.

“It wasn’t our best outing, but it was only our second time playing outside this season,” Ronning said. “The guys are disappointed and they had to work through a lot of nerves, but they are determined to work hard and improve daily.”
