Alex girls first at CLC Indoor championships, boys sixth

The Alexandria track and field teams got a taste of what the rest of the competition in the Central Lakes Conference looks like at the CLC Indoor Championship meet at St. Cloud State University on Saturday.

The Cardinals got a first-place finish from the girls with 122 team points, while the boys finished sixth out of the nine-team field with 59 points.

Bethany and Megan Hasz got the Alexandria girls off to a good start with a photo finish in the 3,200-meter run. The Hasz sisters needed to go to the cameras to determine who beat who as Bethany edged Megan by .01 of a second to win the title. They both finished more than a minute faster than the rest of the field with their times of 10:59.21 and 10:59.22.

Seniors Mady Urman, Tayler Kaufman, Karly Betterman, Julia Sieling, Jaylen Olson-Rodel and Taylor Bollman combined to earn 71 of their team’s 122 points. Urman won the 60 and 200-meter dashes. Betterman won the triple jump and took third in the 400 and forth in the 60-meter hurdles. Sieling was second in the 800-meter run and Kaufman was second in the 200 and third in the pole vault. JeAnna Miller also took first in the high jump.

Overall, the Cardinals had 11 top three finishes to establish themselves as the early favorites in the CLC.
