Alexandria track gets started at SJU Trials

The Alexandria track and field team got its first taste of spring at the St. John’s University Time Trials this past Saturday.

No team scores were taken, but it was an opportunity to get on the track in preparation for the outdoor season. Megan and Bethany Hasz were almost 20 seconds faster than they were at this time a year ago as both the sisters ran faster than the school record time in the 1,600-meter run. Megan finished in 5:05, while Bethany was right behind her in 5:08.

Mady Urman also blew past the field in the 55-meter dash (7.3) and the 200-meter dash (27.5). Other notable improvements from last year came from Tahlia Bowden in the 55-meter dash (7.6), Ellie Hurlen in the 1,600 (5:52), Sara Wegner in the 400 (1:06.3), Julia Sieling (2:32) and Morgan Melrose (2:35) in the 800-meter run and Cheyenne Hendrickson (29-07), Sam Frederick (29-03) and Laura Dahlquist (23-06) in the shot put.

“The lady Cardinals have also welcomed a large group of talented ninth graders to our roster this year,” head coach Meghan Orgeman-Crumb said. “It is exciting to see the depth and talent developing within our program.”

The Cardinals will be back on the indoor track this weekend when they go to St. Cloud State University for the CLC indoor meet.
