Cards enter playoffs after two straight wins

The Alexandria girls wrapped up their regular season with two straight wins and were set to enter the playoffs as the number four seed in the 8AAA tournament last night.

The Cardinals beat Sartell-St. Stephen 60-45 last Friday night after taking care of Rocori behind a big second half the night before. Alexandria trailed by five at the half against the Spartans on Thursday night but allowed just three made field goals all second half to secure a 61-45 win.

Five players finished with at least seven points for Alexandria as Macy Hatlestad led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds. Brooke Heggie added 11 points and eight boards. Amanda Christianson had 11 points, Karly Betterman poured in nine points and had four steals and Sarah Bruzek helped out with seven points.

The Cardinals were set to open up the playoffs against fifth-seeded Detroit Lakes last night. These two teams split during the regular season. With a win, Alexandria would face Fergus Falls this Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Cloud State University if the Otters get past eighth-seeded Little Falls in the quarterfinals.
