Cumberbatch, Olhausen advance to individual quarterfinals

Alexandria's Justin Cumberbatch and Blake Olhausen both advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament with victories on Friday afternoon.

Olhausen advanced by pinning Park High School’s David Giadyu with less than 30 seconds left in his match at 138 pounds. Cumberbatch cruised to a 15-2 victory against Hunter Jirele of Owatonna.

Four other Cardinals dropped opening round matches in the individual state tournament. Dylan Kriese kept things close with Owatonna’s Brenden Buryska, but was unable to pick up a key escape with six seconds left in a 2-1 loss.

Trent Piepenburg lost 5-1 at 132 pounds, and Dustin Neu also lost 5-1 at 152 pounds.

Mike Schluter was pinned in his match at 182 pounds.

Cumberbatch and Olhausen will wrestle their quarterfinal matches this afternoon. The Class AAA quarterfinals begin at 6:30 p.m.
