The Alexandria girls’ basketball team enacted some revenge against Moorhead on Monday in a 70-51 win over the Spuds at home.

Moorhead beat the Cardinals 44-34 back on December 28 in the third place game of Alexandria’s early season home tournament. But in a rematch on Monday, the Cardinals were able to move the ball freely and that led to some extra scoring.

“Everyone was touching the ball, and we were slowing down on offense,” Kendall Kohler said.

Brooke Heggie led the Cardinals’ offense with 29 points, followed by Kendall Kohler who scored 13 and Karly Betterman with 10.

Alexandria has been much improved since January, winning 12 of their past 14 games. Heggie noticed the team played better together Monday than in late December when they lost their first two games of the season in that holiday tournament.

“I think we came together more as a team,” Heggie said.

Alexandria head coach Wendy Kohler said the team has continued to improve since the season started in December. One of those areas where she has noticed an extra effort is in the Cardinals’ defense.

“We’ve just come a long ways since then,” Wendy Kohler said. “We continue to improve as a team, we’re getting out and running the floor, we’re defending better than we were back in Christmas.”

The win improved Alexandria to 16-4 this season.
