Cards take 11th out of 12 at true team state meet

The Alexandria swimming and diving team had eight individuals finish in the top 16 as the Cardinals finished in 11th place out of 12 teams at the Class A True Team State meet Saturday at the University of Minnesota.

The Alexandria swimmers were not aided by a busy January schedule that kept them busy over the past 10 days.

“The Cards were a bit tired going into Saturday’s contest, as they would end the day competing in five meets in 10 days,” head coach Mark Storhaug said.

Mark Kallevig and Max Jacobson both led the Cardinals with two top 16 finishes. Kallevig finished in 10th place in the 200 individual medley and ninth place in the 100 butterfly. Max Jacobson took 12th place in the 50 freestyle and 13th place in the 100 freestyle.

Elliot Jacobson had the highest place for Alexandria as he took sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Other top 16 finishes included eighth place for Brady Wolkow in diving, 13th place for Brandon McCormick in the 100 backstroke and 15th place for Nick Chromey in the 100 breaststroke.

Alexandria also had three relay teams place in the top 16. The 200 yard medley relay of McCormick, Elliot Jacobson, Kallevig and Wolkow finished in ninth; the 200 yard freestyle of Elliot Jacobson, Riley Maanum, Wolkow and Max Jacobson finished in 15th; and the 400 yard freestyle relay of Kallevig, Wolkow, McCormick and Max Jacobson finished in 14th.

Alexandria 125, Willmar 60 The Cardinals had no problem picking up a Central Lakes Conference win 125-60 against Willmar on Thursday night.

Alexandria won 10 of the 12 events on the night. Ben Tollefson won the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle and Max Jacobson also won two events by taking the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

Kallevig won the 200 IM in 2:12.78. Wolkow won the diving with 227.40 points. McCormick won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.96 and Elliot Jacobson took the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.53.

The 400-freestyle relay team of Kallevig, Wolkow, McCormick and M. Jacobson took home that event in 3:38.13, while McCormick, E. Jacobson, Kallevig and Wolkow won the 200-medley relay in 1:48.59.
