Cardinals Nordic ski teams finish fourth

Both the boys and girls Alexandria varsity nordic ski teams finished in fourth place Friday in a continuous pursuit race at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.

The continuous pursuit format called for racers to ski 4.6 kilometers of both the classic and skate techniques. The girls’ team was led by fourth-place finisher Julia Sieling while the boys had two top-10 finishers in Eric Branch and Patrick Flynn.

Sieling’s time of 34:42 gave her a three-second edge over St. Cloud Tech’s Kaethe, who ended up in fifth. Other top finishers for the Cardinals were Ellie Hurlen in 16th place (36:36), Becca Mateer in 20th place (37:19), Lauren Hagstrom in 22nd (38:07) and Britt Hurlen in 24th (38:27).

In the boys’ race, Branch’s time of 29:55 gave him a fifth place finish while Flynn’s time of 30:27 gave him the 10th spot.

Other top finishers for the Cardinals were Carl Branch in 16th (31:16), Casey Call in 31st (33:55) and Sitka Corage in 46th (37:26).

The Cardinals will now prepare for their home invite at Andes Tower Hills tomorrow, Saturday, with the meet set to start at 10 a.m.
