The Cardinals finished with 113.5 team points behind a second-place finish from Justin Cumberbatch at 195 pounds. Sibley East won the tournament with 154 points. Maple River was second (148.5) and Dawson-Boyd-Lac qui Parle Valley-Montevideo was third (142).

Cumberbatch came up just short of bringing home an individual title at 195 pounds. The junior wrestled Worthington’s Carson Hagen in the title match and the two went to overtime before Cumberbatch fell 3-2. Hagen was ranked third in the December 14 Class AA polls at 195 pounds, while Cumberbatch was ranked first in the AAA polls.

Ben Bogart added a third-place finish for Alexandria at 106 pounds. He beat Peyton Mortenson of United in a 4-1 decision in the third-place match. Dylan Kriese was fourth at 126 pounds for the Cardinals. He almost took third but fell in a 5-4 decision to Colten Specht of Quad County.

Alexandria won a fifth, sixth and seventh-place finish the rest of the way. Trent Piepenburg was fifth at 132 pounds after pinning United’s Spencer Sulflow in 1:47 in his final match. Blake Olhausen was seventh at 138 pounds after beating Logan Knoshal of United 8-6 in his final match.

The sixth-place finish came from Dustin Neu as he helped Alexandria into the top 10 as a team. The Cardinals entered the Christmas break after the tournament before returning to action on January 4 when they travel to Foley.
