Cardinal dancers impress at Detroit Lakes

The Alexandria dance team had its best performance of the early season on Saturday as the varsity jazz team took third and the kick team took second at the Detroit Lakes Invite.

The jazz team broke out a new routine and a group of veteran dancers worked through the performance to finish third. Moorhead took first, while Detroit Lakes had a second-place finish.

“We have a lot to work out and clean in the routine, but it was a decent first performance and was enough to finish in third place,” head coach Christine Reilly said. “This year’s varsity jazz team is made up of all veteran team members, and their experience helped pull them through the routine. They are much stronger this year in the area of jumps and leaps.”

The kick team just missed a first-place finish by five points out of a possible 500. Moorhead made it a clean sweep by taking the kick routine, while Pequot Lakes finished third. The Cardinals finished with 18 more points than they did in the season opening conference meet.

“The team had great energy and is showing much more confidence,” Reilly said. “They all pushed really hard to increase kick height and have a clean routine. They had a lot fewer mistakes than at their first CLC kick meet.”
