Alex girls' hockey improves to 3-0

The Alexandria girls' hockey team got a conference and section win and moved to 3-0 in the process on Thursday night as the Cardinals beat Fergus Falls 4-2.

Alexandria was the better team down the stretch in what was a close game for most of the night. The two teams were tied at two apiece in the third period when Hanah Hansen scored a shorthanded goal at 12:26 in the period. That shifted the momentum to the Cardinals, who added a Nicole Bartels goal almost four minutes later to put the finishing touches on the win.

Alexandria never trailed on the night. Mari Wosepka got a shorthanded goal 10:27 into the game before the Otters' Lauren Norgren answered two minutes later. Bartels gave her team the lead back 14 seconds into the second period off an assist from Melissa Drown and Wosepka. The Otters again had an answer as Sydney Kuehl scored at 10:46 in the third period to tie the game.

Amy Jost improved to 3-0 on the young season in net after earning the win. Alexandria will be on the road for the first time this season tonight, Friday, when the Cardinals head to Detroit Lakes to take on the 0-1-1 Lakers.
