Alexandria swim finishes fourth in CLC meet

The Alexandria girls’ swimming and diving team finished in fourth place at the Central Lakes Conference Championship meet on Saturday at Discovery Middle School.

The team was led by Madalyn Winger, who picked up the only Cardinals’ all conference award with a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:45.20. The Cardinals also had two swimmers who finished one spot outside of the top three to earn honorable mention. Megan Bristow finished just behind Winger in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:52.61, and Hannah Eklund finished in fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.66.

The Cardinals 400-yard freestyle relay team of Katie LeBrasseur, Jaylen Olson-Rodel, Bristow and Winger also finished in fourth place with a time of 4:00.79.

After the meet, head coach Mark Storhaug said the Cardinals finished around where they thought they would in the conference meet.

“Sartell, they are the runners up for state last year and Brainerd is a AA team, they’re big and traditionally strong,” he said. “Our sights were on third, we had a good little battle with Willmar and just came out a little behind them.”

Winger was happy with her all conference award after the meet and looked ahead to the section competition.

“I’m glad I got that, but we’re still looking forward to the section meet,” she said.

Alexandria put together a team score of 252 in the conference meet. Sartell-St. Stephen won the CLC title with a team score of 481, and Brainerd finished in second with a score of 472.5.
