Alexandria swims past St. Cloud Tech

The Alexandria girls’ swimming and diving team finished the 2013 regular season with a 98.5-87.5 road win Tuesday over St. Cloud Tech.

The Cardinals were led by Madalyn Winger and Hannah Eklund, who both picked up two wins each. Winger took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.60 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:40.00. Eklund picked up wins in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.34 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.51.

Kate LeBrasseur earned the other individual victory for the Cardinals in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.74.

Alexandria also finished first in two of the three relays on Tuesday. The 200-yard medley relay team of LeBrasseur, Eklund, Mikayla Meece and Heidi Moe finished in first, as did the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Megan Bristow, Jaylen Olson-Rodel, LeBrasseur and Winger.

The Cardinals had six season bests in the race, with Bristow earning two. Mikayla Meece also sliced two seconds off her best this season in the 200-yard individual medley.

Alexandria finished the regular season with an overall record of 5-5, including a 5-3 record against conference opponents.

The Cardinals’ will next host the Central Lakes Conference Championships beginning Thursday, October 24 at Discovery Middle School. The finals will be held on Saturday, October 26 beginning at noon.
