The Alexandria volley ball team made easy work of St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday night to set the stage for a big showdown with Rocori last night, Thursday.

0 Talk about it

The Cardinals (15-5, 10-0 CLC) got the sweep over the Tigers, winning 25-23, 25-19 and 25-18. That gave them a chance to earn the outright Central Lakes Conference championship if they could beat the Spartans (16-4, 9-1) on Thursday night. Rocori’s only conference loss came to Alexandria in five sets the first time these two teams met on September 10.

The Cardinals seem to be getting better as the season progresses. The first time Alexandria met St. Cloud Tech this season, it took the Cardinals five sets to put the Tigers away. Not on Tuesday as Kalley Bistodeau finished with a team-high eight kills, while Amanda Christianson and Liz Schultz each added seven and Wensia Johnson put down six.

“Although as a team we made a few uncharacteristic errors throughout the evening, we ended the match on a high note, playing the hardest and strongest the third set out of them all,” head coach Becky Schlichting said.

The defense was led by Gretchen Watkins as she finished with a team-high 11 digs. Katie Dolan and Christianson each added three aces from the serving line and Amanda Haack had another 28 assists.

Visit on Friday morning for results from Thursday’s battle for the top spot in the CLC between Alexandria and Rocori.
