Cardinals roll over Brainerd in volleball

The Alexandria volleyball team made it look easy during the homecoming match in a 3-0 win over Brainerd that moved the Cardinals to 8-0 in the Central Lakes Conference last Thursday.

Wensia Johnson had 12 kills and Liz Schultz added 10 as they helped lead the way to 25-11, 25-18 and 25-20 wins in straight sets.

“The girls came out with great enthusiasm and energy and really never gave the Warriors a chance to stick with them,” head coach Becky Schlichting said. “The team did a fantastic job of keeping their intensity and game pace up to their level, which is what gave them the ability to close out the match in three sets.”

Amanda Christianson added nine kills and Amanda Haack finished with 28 assists. The defense was led by Kalley Bistodeau, who finished with a team-high eight digs. Four others had at least six digs, as well.

The Cardinals’ win left them one game up in the CLC standings at 8-0. Rocori was 7-1 in league play with a 3-0 win over Willmar last Thursday.
