Cards overpower Apollo tennis

The Alexandria tennis team used its doubles lineup to lead it to a 5-2 win over St. Cloud Apollo on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals swept the Eagles in doubles play with all three wins coming in straight sets. Marissa Wheeler and Rachel Sjostrand set the tone with a 6-0, 6-4 win at first doubles before Kim Wilkins and Kerri Wilkins and the duo of Hannah Vickstrom and Abby Telander followed suit at the second and third spots, respectively.

Ellie Bergstrand and Carly Snell did the same in the singles lineup. Bergstrand won 6-2, 6-3 at the top spot, while Snell took care of her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at second singles.

"It was a good team win for our girls as Apollo is a much-improved team," head coach Dave Ronning said. "They have defeated some good teams this year, so we are very happy to have been on top of our games."

The Cardinals moved to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the Central Lakes Conference with the win.
