Resorters Golf Tournament: Dierks, Kranz in Junior 13-15 championship

Medalist Peter Dierks will take his spot on the No. 1 tee today at noon as he attempts to capture the Junior 13-15 championship with a 6-5 win over Andrew Lindberg.

The Leawood, Kansas golfer will face Carter Kranz of Sauk Centre in his bid for the title, after Kranz defeated Sam Franklin of Maple Grove 1-up.

Dierks def. Lindberg, 6-5

It was one more step toward a championship for medalist Peter Dierks as he marched into the finals with a 6-5 win over Andrew Lindberg of Coppell, Texas Friday.

Dierks had an early 2-up lead after four holes as he played steady par golf.

He had a little hiccup on No. 5 with a bogey that cost him a hole, but he quickly regained his composure to birdie No. 6 and took back that 2-up lead.

Lindberg put together a birdie hole on No. 8 to cut into the lead once again, but from there, it was all Dierks, who gained ground on the next five holes with pars for a 6-5 victory.

Kranz def. Franklin, 1-up

After an early 3-up lead, Carter Kranz had to dig deep to win this one.

Kranz won the first two holes of play on a par and a birdie, then went up by three as he took No. 5 on a bogey. His opponent yesterday, Sam Franklin of Maple Grove, found his way back into the match on No. 7 with a par win, but Kranz countered with a par on the very next hole. Franklin again attacked with a bogey win to end the first nine, then added three straight wins on the back on par, par and birdie to take his first lead of the match.

Kranz kept going on No. 13 as he won by par, and added another par on the next hole to take back the lead.

From there, the two golfers traded the lead with par wins as Franklin would even the match and Kranz would slide back up by one. The match finished on the upswing for Kranz to give him the 1-up victory after 18 holes.
