Dancin' off Broadway spring recital is Saturday

The Alexandria Dancin' off Broadway (DOB) dancers held their own in a field of more than 160 dancers in the Masquerade and Midwest Starz dance competitions recently.

The local dancers took first, second and third place for the petite intermediate large groups in the Masquerade competition. They then added first-place finishes in the teen intermediate line groups and the senior intermediate large group divisions.

Koryna Molden and Karly Betterman won the teen intermediate duo division. Kole Nelson and Mariya Lawinger then finished first and second, respectively, in the senior intermediate solo division.

Nelson, Allie Noetzelman and Lawinger all received the Parade of Stars Award, which is a scholarship to attend a dance convention in New York City.

A total of 29 awards were earned by DOB dancers at the Midwest Starz competition. Nelson, Noetzelman, Lawinger, Breanna Lewis, Riley Fernholz, Molden and Betterman were all named standout dancers at the event.

Dancin' off Broadway in Alexandria and Sauk Centre offers dance instruction in tap, ballet, jazz, pointe and hip hop at both the recreational and competitive level. The regular season runs from September through May with the professionally staged Christmas and spring recitals highlighting the season.

The DOB dancers will present that spring recital this Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m. and 3 and 7 p.m. at the Sauk Centre High School auditorium. Approximately 400 dancers, including Dancin' Dads and a boys' hip hop class, will present the recital called "Live the Dream!"
