Beetles fall to Honkers

Riley Bevill struck out eight Beetles and Drew Beuerlein hit his third home run of the season as the Honkers knocked off Alexandria Monday night, winning 4-1.

Nick Brown (2-3) took the loss for the Beetles, tossing seven innings while giving up seven hits and all four runs.  Brown walked two and struck out five.

Arik Sikula pitched the ninth for the Honkers, striking out two en route to his 11th save of the season. The loss snapped the Beetles two-game win streak. Alexandria finishes its season-high six game road trip 4-2.

Rochester posted three first inning runs and never looked back.  With two out and the bases empty, Rance Roundy drew a walk.  Then, PJ Sequeira drove a double to the left-center field gap, plating Roundy.  Beuerlein followed with a two-run shot over the right field fence, padding the lead to 3-0.

Alexandria had problems mounting rallies all evening long.  In the third inning, the Beetles came up with their only run of the game on a Tim Roberson RBI single to right field.  However, the Beetles would strand eight runners in the ballgame.

The Honkers would answer with another run in the sixth on another PJ Sequeira RBI base knock, and the Rochester relievers shut down the Alexandria offense for the final three innings of the game.

In all, the Beetles struck out 13 times, the first seven of which were called third strikes.

Keith Castillo, after being called out on strikes for the second time in the game, was ejected for arguing in the third inning.  He served a league-mandated one-game suspension on Wednesday when the Beetles returned home to take on the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers.
