The Osakis Hawks are 8-5 on the summer after a 5-0 win over Millerville on Saturday and a 2-1 loss to Ashby on Sunday.

Devin Waldvogel took the tough-luck loss against Ashby. He went the distance against the A’s and allowed just the two runs but the offense couldn’t get going to back him up.

The Hawks put up all five of their runs through the first two innings against Millerville on Saturday before Derek Waldvogel took control on the mound. He went eight innings to secure the win. Waldvogel allowed just three singles, which helped him overcome six walks without allowing a run to cross the plate. He struck out nine before Drew Fearing fanned the side in the ninth to close things out.

Osakis is starting to get healthy at the right time of year as the Hawks have Fearing back and now Lane Berberich. Berberich returned from a shoulder injury to bat leadoff on Saturday. He scored in each of the first two innings and reached three times on a single and two walks.

Levi Hintermeister reached base four times for the Millers. He had two of his team’s three hits and also walked twice.

Osakis sent nine men to the plate in a three-run first inning against Millers’ starter Dan Schaffer. Fearing doubled in Berberich in that frame and came around to score himself before Colter Fortenberry walked and scored as the Hawks took an early lead and never looked back.

“We couldn’t seem to get many hits against Waldvogel,” Millerville’s Trent Hintermeister said. “He is a very solid pitcher who hits his spots consistently. Dan Schaffer gave up five runs in the first two innings, but then really came on strong in his next four innings. Nolan Bartholomew came in to pitch after Dan and did a nice job holding Osakis to their 5-0 lead.”

Fearing finished with three hits on the day for Osakis. Cory Collins also added two singles and a walk to reach base three times.

Osakis is in third place in the Resorters West Division with its 8-5 league record. Urbank-Parkers Prairie beat Brandon-Evansville 8-3 this past weekend in a battle of the top two teams in the division. The Bombers now lead the West with a 10-2 league record, while the Bluedogs are 10-3 after the loss to Urbank-Parkers Prairie and a 10-8 win in 11 innings over Millerville on Sunday.

The Hawks have a doubleheader against the division-leading Bombers this weekend. The time and location of those games were yet to be determined as of Monday after rain postponed the scheduled first matchup of these two teams last Friday night.

Millerville will be in Urbank on Thursday night for an 8 p.m. game. See Friday’s issue of the Echo Press for more results on this past weekend’s Resorters Baseball action.
