Local youth baseball teams qualify for state

Three Alexandria youth baseball teams recently qualified for the Gopher State Tournament of Champions that will take place in July.

The 12AAA team qualified for state at the Big Lake Tournament by picking up four wins. They scored 48 runs in those four wins, beating Andover 14-1, Becker 17-7, Lake Elmo 6-3 and St. Croix 11-1.

The Alexandria Red 11AA team also qualified at a tournament in Big Lake by going 4-1 by piling up a total of 45 runs during those games. They recorded close wins over Blaine (4-3) and Westonka (9-6) to end the tournament.

The Thunder 10AA team qualified for state after taking four wins in the Elk River Tournament. The Thunder got wins of 7-6 over Zimmermann, 7-3 over Osseo-Maple Grove, 5-3 over Norwood-Young American and 9-5 over Annandale. They tied Brooklyn Park 5-5.
