Sports roundup from Saturday, May 10

The Alexandria tennis team ran into a talented St. Cloud Tech team on Saturday and fell 7-0 in Central Lakes Conference play.

"Tech came in here ready to play and all of them seemed to be in a zone winning every spot in straight sets," head coach Dave Ronning said. "The closest match of the day was at second singles where Brendan Holm managed to come up with five games. I was happy with our guys even in the midst of this loss. They never quit and kept fighting to the very end. I would guess that most any one of their players has played more tennis than the combined amount of our entire team. We will look to improve next week with the four matches we have left on our schedule."
GIRLS GOLF The Alexandria girls' golf team won the 8AAA Pre-section meet on Friday with a team score of 348, seven shots in front of second-place Buffalo (355). That came a day before Alexandria traveled to Staples and won in an 11-team invite with a 343. We finished the week undefeated," head coach Tim Zupfer said. "The most significant thing about the week was that we won four meets, with four different lineups. This is a clear credit to the talent we have throughout our program." The Cardinals had the top two finishes in the pre-section meet with Amanda Bigger shooting a 77 to win the tournament. Natalie Amundson was not far behind with an 80 to finish in second place. Bridget Amundson shot a 93 to finish 13th and Kalley Bistodeau rounded out Alexandria's scoring with a 98.
