Osakis girls first at Waska, ABE boys second

The Osakis girls’ track and field team won its second meet of the season Thursday at the Minnewaska Invite.

The Silverstreaks won the meet with 148 team points, with Minnewaska taking fourth with 89.50 points, Ashby-Brandon-Evansville in fifth with 86 points and Prairie Valley in sixth with 14 points.

The ABE boys’ track and field team also had a strong meet in finishing second with 121 team points. Minnewaska took third with 79 points, Osakis took fifth with 41 team points and Prairie Valley finished sixth with 33 points.

Caroline Jansen had a strong meet for the ABE girls as she finished fourth in four different events. Jansen took first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.93, first in the 300 meter hurdles in 52.53, first in the long jump with a leap of 17-00.25 and first in the triple jump with a distance of 35-01.50.

Madison Krupke also had a first place finish for the ABE girls in the 400 meter dash time of 1:04.20.

Minnewaska’s Mariah Beckius took first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.63 and the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.31.

The Silverstreaks rested many of its experienced relay runners in Minnewaska, but the 4x200 team of Makayla Hoglin, Brooke Sorenson, Lauren Savageau and Brittney Sadlemyer still took first with a time of 1:58.70.

The Silverstreaks swept the top four spots in the 800 meter run, with Lauren Savageau finishing in first with a time of 2:44.11. Second was Sadlemyer with a time of 2:44.40, third was Brooke Sorenson in 2:46.10 and fourth was Makayla Hoglin in 2:47.00. Osakis also swept the top three spots in the girls’ high jump. Kayla Sorenson took first with a jump of 4-11.00, Brooke Sorenson took second at 4-07.00 and Emily Eckel took third at 4-05.00.

Osakis’ Jessica Bliese finished first in the shot put with a toss of 31-09.50, with Sadlemyer right behind her with a throw of 27-05.00.

Bliese also finished first in the discus with a throw of 88-05.


In the boys’ competition, Mitch Sunder had a strong meet in the field events for Osakis. He took first in the discus throw with a toss of 107-10, and third in the shot put with a distance of 38-06.00.

ABE’s 4x100 team took first place with a time of 46.43, with Minnewaska finishing directly behind in second with a time of 48.19.

Evan Anderson picked up a first place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.77, and he also took second in the 400 meter dash in 55.10.

Toby Wach finished third for ABE in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.39. Gavin Saxton took second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.54.

Minnewaska took the top two spots in the 100 meter dash. Josh Bartels won the race with a time of 11.03, and teammate Jack Schultenover finished second in 11.34.

Ryan Moen was the only competitor in the boys’ pole vault, finishing in first for Minnewaska with a height of 7-00.00.
