A comeback effort by the Ashby boys’ basketball team helped them earn a razor-thin 69-68 victory on the road at Rothsay Tuesday.

The Arrows trailed 35-29 at halftime and were down by as much as 11 points in the second half. But Ashby came all the way back to trail by one point with 20 seconds left in the game.

After Rothsay’s Brett Brenden missed a free-throw, Blake Ohren picked up the rebound and drove the floor to score with almost no time left on the clock to give Ashby the one-point victory.

“Rothsay played a nice game tonight,” Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said. “They shot the ball well and played good defense.”

Ashby had a little rust coming out of the Christmas break. Knick said the Arrows had trouble getting into a rhythm on offense and forced some shots.

“We also did a poor job rebounding,” he said. “We gave them too many second chance points around the basket.”

Blake Ohren led Ashby with 28 points, 19 of which he scored in the second half. Dakota Fossan also scored a career-high 11 points and had five steals and grabbed seven rebounds.

Logan Moen led the Rothsay offense with 31 points, and Brett Brenden finished with 18.
