Alexandria 8, Minnesota 0

The Blizzard’s Ian Ecklund had four goals to lead Alexandria to an 8-0 win over the Minnesota Flying Aces at the Runestone Community Center on Saturday night.

Drake Hunter scored on a power-play goal in the first period to give the Blizzard a 1-0 lead after the first frame. That’s when Ecklund took over, recording the hat trick in the middle period around a goal by teammate Nate Mettenburg. Hunter added his second of the night in the third period before Aaron Ryback and Ecklund put the finishing touches on a dominant win with goals less than two minutes apart.

Kyle Miller made good on his first start in net for Alexandria this season. He got the shutout with 30 saves. The Flying Aces’ Jaxson Gosnell took the loss, giving up eight goals on 37 shot attempts.


Osakis 63, Pierz 41

The Osakis girls’ basketball team won its sixth straight game on Saturday as the Silverstreaks ran past Pierz on the road, 63-41.

Every win during their current winning streak has come by double digits. Brooke Sorenson had 20 points for Osakis to help move her team to 7-1 on the season. The Silverstreaks now prepare for a big conference game in Browerville on Monday night. The Tigers (6-1, 3-0) and Osakis are the only two teams still unbeaten in Prairie Conference play. The Silverstreaks are 4-0 in league play.


The Alexandria wrestling team finished fourth at the Foley invite on Saturday with 121.5 team points.

Ben Bogart got Alexandria going with a fourth-place finish at 106 pounds. Ben Johnson followed with a sixth-place finish at 113 pounds. Adam Johnson was fourth at 120 pounds. Quentin Beinigen took third at 126 before Trent Piepenburg finished second at 132 pounds after coming up just short in a 4-0 match against Tyler Berghuis of ACGC.

Blake Olhausen followed with a fourth-place finish at 138 pounds. Jacob Schiltgen finished sixth at 145 pounds. Dustin Neu took third at 152 pounds with a pin in 45 seconds against Will Suehr (MG). Justin Cumberbatch then battled with Tyler Midas of Foley in the title match at 195 pounds as Midas held off Cumberbatch in an 8-7 decision.
