Alexandria 3, Wisconsin 2

The Alexandria Blizzard got two goals in the third period on Friday night and held on to beat Wisconsin 3-2.

Mick Dhein scored what proved to be the game winner at 13:20 in the second period. Aaron Ryback also scored in the second period. 

The Whalers grabbed the first lead of the night with a goal less than two minutes into the game. The Blizzard responded shortly after, getting a goal from Jody Randall. Alexandria never trailed again as the Blizzard improved to 15-7. These two teams will square off again tonight. 


Sauk Centre 75, Osakis 31

The Osakis boys' basketball team ran into undefeated Sauk Centre and couldn't keep up in a 75-31 loss on Friday night.

John Boogaard was the only Osakis player in double figures with 10 points. Lane Berberich added seven points. No other Osakis player scored more than four.

"We ran into another big sized team tonight that shot the ball well from outside," Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said. "We tried to pack it in on defense and force outside shots and they made them. Tip our hats to them, they are a physical team that plays tough defense and they have a lot of weapons on offense that we couldn't account for."

Alexandria 68, Rocori 57

The Alexandria boys' basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with its second Central Lakes Conference win of the season in a 67-58 game against Rocori.

Joe Goghuber had 17 points to help the Cardinals to the win. David Krivanek added 15 and John Vogeler finished with 12. 

Parkers Prairie 57, Underwood 47

The Panthers imroved to 2-0 with a 57-47 win over Underwood on Friday night.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 72, Minnewaska 40


Alexandria 72, Detroit Lakes 44

The Alexandria girls' basketball team had no problems in its season opener as the Cardinals won 72-44 on the road.


Alexandria 4, Sartell-St. Stephen 2

The Alexandria boys' hockey team used two third-period goals to open up a tie game and move to 3-0 on the season with a 4-2 win in Sartell.

Ryan Marciniak had a big game for the Cardinals as he scored two goals, including the go-ahead goal in the third period. Zach Johnson added a goal not long after that to give the Cardinals some breathing room. Marciniak got Alexandria going with a goal in the first before Levi McFarlane added a second-period goal. The two teams went back and forth through those first two frames and were tied at one apiece after the first and two apiece after the second.

Sam Goetsch had another nice night in goal for Alexandria. He got the win with 23 saves.
