Weekend sports roundup
Henning 53, Brandon-Evansville 44 (from Friday, November 22)
The Brandon-Evansville boys' basketball team was deadlocked at 25 apiece at the half but couldn't overcome Henning in a 53-44 loss on the road on Friday night.
Skyler Quinn had a nice opening night with 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Chargers. Henning's Kaleb Thallman stole the show, though, with a game-high 34 points. McKenan Plaster added eight points for Brandon-Evansville.
The Chargers outrebounded the Hornets, but shot just 35 percent from the field and 2-of-10 from three-point range. Brandon-Evansville will be on the road again this Tuesday with a game in Swanville.
Alexandria 4, Flint 3 (NA3HL Showcase)
The Blizzard's Bo Gronseth provided the game winner in overtime on Saturday afternoon as Alexandria beat Flint 4-3 in its second game at the NA3HL Showcase in Chicago.
Gronseth's goal came just 49 seconds into the extra session after Alexandria had scored two goals in the third period to force overtime. The equalizer came from Gronseth on a power play after Nate Mettenburg added a power-play goal himself earlier in the third to make it a one-goal game. Mick Dhein added the Blizzard's other goal shorthanded in the second period.
Flint grabbed leads of 2-0 and 3-1 after putting up three goals in the second period. The Blizzard kept chipping away and Alexandria was rewarded for that with Gronseth coming up big down the stretch. Tanner Elmore got the win in net for the Blizzard, stopping 32 of the 35 shots sent his way.
The Blizzard's third game of the showcase comes tonight at 7:15 against Cleveland.
