Christianson signs with SCSU in basketball ChristiansonAlexandria girls’ basketball player Amanda Christianson made her verbal commitment to play for St. Cloud State University official on Wednesday as the senior guard signed her national letter of intent.

The Echo Press ran a story on Christianson giving her pledge to the Huskies in the September 13 issue. She joined classmate Zach Peterson in signing with the Huskies on Wednesday as he signed on to play baseball at SCSU.

Fearing signs with NDSU for baseball Osakis’ Drew Fearing signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at the Division I level for North Dakota State University on Wednesday.

Fearing will be on partial scholarship with the Bison and has been told that the NDSU coaches feel his bat is good enough to get in the lineup right away as a freshman. Fearing hit .473 with 35 RBIS in helping Osakis to the state title game as a junior.

YMCA Turkey Day 5K The Alexandria Area YMCA is hosting the 3rd annual Turkey Day 5K on Thanksgiving Day, November 28 at the YMCA.

The race is open to both members and non-members. Check-in and registration begins at 6:30 a.m. followed by an 8 a.m. race start. The race begins at the YMCA, continues along the Central Lakes Trail and finishes back at the YMCA.

Participants who register before Monday, November 18 are guaranteed a T-shirt. Early bird registration is $20 and race-day registration is $25. Runners and walkers can register online at or by calling (320) 834-9622.

LAR open gym The Sunday 35-and-older open gym will start on November 17 and run through April 27 from 7-9 p.m. at the Discovery Middle School gym.
