The Alexandria Blizzard went 1-1 over the weekend, winning against Breezy Point on the road Friday but losing the home opener to Granite City Saturday.

0 Talk about it

The Blizzard had no problem putting away the North Stars in a 5-1 win on Friday, but the tables turned on Saturday as the Lumberjacks cruised to an 8-1 victory at the Runestone Community Center.

Joe Anderson led the Blizzard with two goals on Friday against Breezy Point. Jody Randall, Tom Schmidt and Ian Ecklund also scored for Alexandria.

Goaltender Tanner Elmore saved 25 of the 26 shots on goal for the win.

But Saturday was a completely different game for the Blizzard. Granite City built an early 5-0 lead before Jake Maxson scored the lone Alexandria goal. Three goals in the third period gave Granite City an 8-1 victory.

Goaltender Evan Bisek was given the loss for the Blizzard after allowing four goals on 12 shots in the first period. Elmore played the final two periods in net, giving up four goals on 18 shots.

Luke Richardson led Granite City with three goals on Saturday.

The Blizzard will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Runestone Community Center with two games against the Wisconsin Whalers. The puck drops both nights at 7:10 p.m.
