Ashby volleyball loses to Battle Lake in five sets

Playing in their first home match of the season, the Ashby volleyball team was unable to hold off Battle Lake last Tuesday after a long five-set battle.

Battle Lake took the first set of the long match, but the Arrows were able to rebound and take the next two.

After a back-and-forth battle in the fourth set, the Arrows took a timeout in a 20-20 tie. Head coach Andrea Knick said she was confident they were going to close out the match.

"I really thought our girls could get out there and take the match," Knick said. "But Battle Lake didn't skip a beat after the timeout, hitting hard at the net to close out the set."

After winning the fourth set 25-20, Battle Lake turned around and took the fifth set 15-7.

"Even though we lost last night, I am proud of our girls for fighting as hard as they did," Knick said.

Haley Krupke led the team with six kills and also served two aces. Cassandra Jordan led the Arrows' defense with 12 digs, and Madison Van Santen had 12 set assists in the match.

The Arrows also honored Brenda Johnson before the match. Johnson was the coach of the Ashby volleyball program for 26 years before she retired over the off-season.
