Girls basketball: Knights take home conference win in Ortonville
The West Central Area girls basketball team battled back and forth with the Trojans in Ortonville last Thursday night in a Pheasant Conference matchup.
The teams exchanged leads until one minute was on the clock when the Knights pulled ahead, getting defensive stops leading to a 57-50 finish.
"The game was fast paced and physical throughout," WCA head coach Eric Schoenbauer said. "The girls played a great game together and leaned on each other to make plays."
Sophomore Hailey Bennett led the Knights with 15 points and four steals. Junior Ella Van Kempen added 14 points and grabbed four rebounds, two steals and one block. Senior Brianna Kreft chipped in nine points and had a team-leading 16 rebounds.
"In previous games, we have tried to be tricky and make tough plays," Schoenbauer said. "But (against the Trojans) we played strong and made the easy plays. Making the easy plays requires trust in each other and the girls did a great job trusting one another."
The Knights hosted Battle Lake on Feb. 10 and grabbed a 60-33 victory, making their overall record 16-6. WCA is 4-3 in the Pheasant Conference.
