Swimming and diving: Alexandria piles up first-place finishes against the Otters

The Alexandria swimming and diving team dominated Fergus Falls on Thursday by a 110-74 score after season-best times up and down the lineup.

Things got going as they usually do with the 200-medley relay team of Zach Dummer, Nic Chromey, Nick Olson and Jordon Bass winning with ease. That went into an easy win for Patrick Chromey in the 200 freestyle as he won that by almost eight seconds.

In the 200 IM, eighth grader Nick Welle took first. Nic Chromey did the same in the 50 freestyle.

Devan Swerman paced the Alexandria divers in third place, while Dummer was second in the 100 butterfly with a section cut time. Patrick Chromey paced the Cardinals in the 100 freestyle with a first-place finish.

"Nick Olson swam the most exciting race of the night in the 500 freestyle, out-touching the Fergus Falls swimmer by less than one second to win the event, dropping 12 seconds from his previous best time in the process," head coach Kathy Walker said.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Bass, Nick Welle, P. Chromey and N. Chromey won before Dummer won the 100 backstroke in a season-best time and Welle took the 100 breaststroke. That set up the 400 freestyle relay team to swim exhibition to cap off a dominant night over the Otters.
