Boys hockey: Doherty scores four to lead Cardinals past Willmar
The Alexandria boys hockey team had no problem snapping a three-game losing streak as the Cardinals handled Willmar in an 8-0 game on Thursday.
It was 3-0 after the first period and 7-0 after two. Alexandria (6-7-1, 5-3 Central Lakes Conference) outshot the visiting Cardinals (2-11-1, 0-5 CLC) 46-9 overall.
Ben Doherty, who missed much of the first half of the season due to injury, broke out in a big way against Willmar with a four-goal game. He added an assist for five points to up that total to nine points on the season in seven games played.
Caleb Strong finished with three points on two goals and an assist, while Jack Westlund had three helpers and a goal himself. Bailey Rosch got the win in net with nine saves.
Alexandria is back on the ice tonight, Friday, with a 7:15 p.m. game against Mankato West (7-7) in a non-conference matchup.
