Girls basketball: Panthers win sixth straight behind dominant defense

The Parkers Prairie girls basketball team dominated its way to its sixth straight win on Dec. 29 as the Panthers breezed past Verndale 50-15.

Parkers Prairie (6-1) lost its season opener to West Central Area (7-3) on Nov. 28 but has beaten teams by an average of 35 points since then.

The Panthers have stymied teams defensively, holding opponents to a Little-Eight Conference best 31.7 points per game. They held the Pirates to just one field goal in the second half. Not one Verndale (2-7) player had more than four points.

Freshman forward Faith Alberts led the way offensively against the Pirates as she put in 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Senior guard Megan Dreger added 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals, while sophomore forward Hali Moske chipped in nine points.

The Panthers will put their winning streak on the line at home against Ashby (2-5) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
