Boys hockey: Third period leads Hibbing-Chisholm past Alexandria

The Alexandria boys hockey team finished three games up north with a 1-2 record after falling 3-1 to Hibbing-Chisholm on Friday afternoon.

The one win was a big one as it came against Class A's third-ranked Greenway-Nash-Kee (9-3) in a 3-2 overtime game, but Virginia-Mt. Iron-Buhl and Hibbing-Chisholm combined to limit the Cardinals to just one goal the final two days.

That goal came from Jack Powell at 8:59 of the second period as the Cardinals (5-6-1) took a 1-0 lead against Hibbing (3-6) on Friday. The Bluejackets responded with a three-goal third period on scores from Mat Versich, Tristan Birdsall (power play) and Jake Riihinen.

Senior Jackson Boline took the loss after allowing those three goals, while Hibbing's Tore Tuin stopped 24 shots for the win.
