Girls hockey: Cardinals get the final game of Edina Tournament
The Alexandria girls hockey team salvaged the final game of the Edina Tournament on Thursday by taking care of Stillwater in a 5-0 finish.
The Cardinals (9-6) led from the get-go after eighth grader Kaci Trosvig scored just 48 seconds into the first period. It was part of a balanced effort for Alexandria as five different players scored on a night when the Cardinals outshot Stillwater (3-9-2) 35-17.
Alexandria used the power play in the second period as Mayson Toft and Kristin Trosvig both scored with the advantage to make it a 3-0 game. Anna Doherty added a goal at 4:52 of the third before McKenna Ellingson put the finishing touches on things at 10:28.
Sophomore Amanda Bittmann got her eighth win of the season after turning aside 17 shots. That ups her save percentage to .919 and lowers her goals-against average to 1.62.
The Cardinals have off until Jan. 4 when they jump back into Central Lakes Conference play at home against Sartell-St. Stephen (7-6-2) at 7:15 p.m.
