Girls basketball: Chargers fend off Hillcrest for second win
The Brandon-Evansville girls basketball team fought off Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Tuesday night to even its record at 2-2 with its first victory in the Little Eight Conference this year.
The Chargers lost 62-58 at New York Mills on Saturday but bounced back with a 48-38 win over the Comets (0-1). Brandon-Evansville led 28-20 at the break and held on in the second half despite shooting 28 percent from the field overall (14-of-50).
"The game was a little chaotic and we played like we hadn't practiced for a few days," head coach Sam Lange said. "(Senior forward) Allie Satterlie was unable to play most of the game after hurting her knee, which challenged our team. But we were able to play through the tough moments and got a lot of great play from our bench. It was nice to come out of a game like that with the win."
Junior guard Sara Jacobson led the Chargers with 12 points. Emily Bukkila and Brittany Korkowski each added seven points, while freshman Mikenna Pattrin had six.
Hillcrest's Olivia Foss led all scorers with 17. Teammate Paige Schultz added 11, but no other player for the Comets scored more than five.
"Hillcrest played us tough and pressured really well," Lange said.
The Chargers will jump back into LEC play on Friday night as they go to Rothsay to play the Tigers at 7:15 before going to Graceville to face CGB on Monday.
