Blizzard Hockey: Alexandria swept in weekend series with Granite City
The Blizzard hockey team hit the road to face Granite City on Saturday night after losing to the Lumberjacks on Friday night 8-2.
While the margin of loss was smaller on Saturday, the Blizzard wasn't able to put more than two goals on the board as Granite swept the weekend series with a 4-2 win.
The Lumberjacks took a two-goal lead less than 13 minutes into the game. Alexandria's Josiah Roen made it a one-goal game when he hit the net with assists from Logan Nelson and Alex Skar with less than three minutes left in the first period.
Braden Altena got another goal on the board for Granite City halfway through the second period, giving the Lumberjacks a 3-1 lead.
With just 40 seconds left in the second period, Nicholas Lindgren nabbed the final Alexandria goal with an assist from Roen, making the score 3-2 going into the final period.
The Lumberjacks got one more on the board and goaltender David Mulligan shut the Blizzard out in the final period.
Granite City outshot the Blizzard 35-23, taking 16 shots in the first period compared to the nine shots taken by the Blizzard.
This loss drops the Blizzard's overall record to 7-9 as it prepares to host the Willmar Warhawks for the first time this season at the Runestone Community Center.
The Blizzard will play the Warhawks on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:10 p.m.
