Volleyball: Osakis season ends with BBE
The Osakis volleyball team headed into a the 5A-South semifinals against top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (17-13) last Tuesday, Oct. 31, hoping to keep the momentum going from their three-match winning streak. But the Silverstreaks fell short, losing to the Jaguars in three sets.
"We ran up against a tough BBE team," Osakis coach Kirsten Wessel said. "We struggled on serve receive at the start of the match. We had some great defensive moments."
The Jaguars took the first two sets, 25-11.
"We made a nice comeback in game three," Wessel said. "It just wasn't enough."
The Silverstreaks pushed it a bit in the third but still fell, 25-16.
"One volley lasted for 10 attack attempts for each team," Wessel said. "It would have been nice to come out on the winning end of that volley, but either way it was a great volley!"
Osakis had a total of 17 kills in the three sets. Maddie Johanson led with seven of them. The Silverstreaks served at 92.3 percent and Bobbi Jo Alverson, Harlie Falzone and Morgan Faber each had an ace in the match.
Emma Johnson had a team-leading 13 digs on the night followed by Megan Peikert with nine.
The Silverstreaks ended the season with a 11-18 overall record and two playoff victories.
"The main thing is that we never gave up," Wessel said. "I'm proud of the efforts that these girls put into tonight and all season. The seniors were great leaders and they will be missed next year. Each of them contributed tremendously in practices and matches."
