Football: Chargers go for fifth straight win

The Brandon-Evansville football team ran its winning streak to four games last Friday by shutting out Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.

The Chargers haven't lost since their opener against Verndale, making their overall season record 4-1 heading into a matchup at home against 2-3 Underwood on Friday night at 7.

"We continue to focus on what we need to fix from the week before," B-E head coach Tim Pattrin said. "The guys are gaining confidence each week and staying hungry to improve to reach our goals."

Last week, the Chargers held the Wolverines to just 88 yards offensively in the B-E homecoming game. That led to a dominant win from start to finish in the 44-0 final.

"Our D-line played a great game all night," Pattrin said. "They were able to control their gaps and our linebackers were able to run free to make tackles."

Underwood shut out Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 44-0 last week for its second win of the season after taking care of CGB 38-30 in the season opener. B-E beat Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 50-0 in the second game of the season.

"Underwood uses a lot of different formations to confuse the defense," Pattrin said. "We need to be fully aware where certain players are at all times and do our jobs. Defensively, they have a big line and aggressive linebackers. We have to get our blocks with good pad level to continue moving the ball."

In their game against CGB, B-E had 310 yards offensively, eight first-downs and one turnover. That's a recipe for success on most nights, and one the Chargers look to follow again as they try for their fifth straight win on Friday.

"We have to improve our coverages on defense to contend with Underwood's passing attack," Pattrin said. "We also need to improve our ball security to keep our turnovers down."
