Volleyball: Chargers beat Battlers in four sets
The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday night and came home with a Little Eight Conference victory over Battle Lake in four sets.
"Each team seemed to have too many serving errors," Chargers coach Kelly Olson said. "But I think the difference in this match was we possibly covered up those mistakes a bit more than Battle Lake did."
The Chargers took the first set 25-14.
"We started out really passing the ball well," Olson said. "Overall, the ability to pass out of serve receive and cover on defense was much better."
Emily Bukkila had 19 of the team's total 43 digs on the night. Bailey Schaefer had 10 digs.
The Chargers' had a 65 percent sideout percentage compared to the Battlers with 56 percent.
"It was a tough match that went back and forth, especially after that first set when I thought we held the advantage throughout. It seemed whomever had the momentum at the right time would get the win," Olson said.
The Battlers won a close second set, 25-22.
"We started a bit sluggish in the second set and had some unforced errors towards the end that cost us," Olson said. "But overall it was a good effort against a good Battle Lake team and we are happy to leave their with a four set win."
The Chargers responded to the second set loss and took the third and fourth sets, 25-22, 25-22.
This victory improved the Chargers' overall record to 10-9 and makes their conference record 5-3.
Alli Satterlie led at the net with 17 kills, followed by B. Schaefer with 10 kills and Payton Schaefer had seven kills.
"To me, the defense that we played and some timely hitting kept us in this match," Olson said.
The Chargers head to tournament play in Marshall for the Subway Classic on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7.
