Volleyball: Chargers score a win against Comets

The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team hosted Hillcrest Lutheran Academy for a Little Eight matchup and despite playing with a new lineup, the Chargers took the victory on Tuesday night.

The Comets haven't won a set in dual matches yet this season and that didn't change when they faced the Chargers.

"We wanted to end our mini losing streak, but we wanted to play better than we have been, win or lose," B-E head coach Kelly Olson said. "Serving was improved as we were above 90 percent with 13 aces and only six errors."

The Chargers had good control during set one and moved the ball around well, Olson said. B-E took the set 25-15.

"The second and third sets, I think we really had to play through some tough patches to get the win," Olson said. "In set two especially we started slow and had to have a big comeback, led by Payton Schaefer's serve. She has been very consistent all year behind the line. We needed her and she didn't let us down."

Schaefer had a 100 percent serving success rate against the Tigers. Senior Emily Bukkila led with seven of the team's total aces. Freshman Bailey Schaefer and senior Allie Satterlie each had eight kills, followed by freshman Mikenna Pattrin with seven kills. Setter Madison Quinn had four aces and 22 assists for the Chargers.

"There were a few mental errors out there, but with a new lineup I figured there was going to be a couple of breakdowns," Olson said. "For the most part we covered those up and closed the sets out."

This conference win improved the Chargers' overall record to 8-8 and their conference record to 3-2.

B-E hosts Parkers Prairie on Thursday, Sept. 28 for another Little 8 matchup at 7:15 p.m.

The Chargers have organized a Dig-in for Dingwall support event and are asking everyone who attends the Parkers Prairie game on Thursday to wear pink. There will be bracelets for sale and a serve-a-thon between the second and third sets with all proceeds going to the Dingwall family.
