Volleyball: Knights surrender to Warriors in three sets
The West Central Area volleyball team was handed a three set defeat when it hosted the Wheaton-Herman-Norcross Warriors on Thursday night.
"The girls fought extremely hard and I'm very proud of their performance," WCA Coach Amy Linn said. "I wish we would have come out on top, but our play tonight was much improved over earlier in the week."
The three sets were close, 25-18, 26-24 and 27-25, but the Warriors took them all.
"Our offense spread out nicely," Linn said about outside hitter Morgan Woodle's 10 kills, followed by Brianna Kreft with nine, middle hitter Demara Bumgardner with seven, middle hitter Gabbi Beucken with five, setter Hailey Bennett with three and rightside hitter Hannah Anderson with two kills.
Bennett also had 21 assists throughout the three sets and Kreft had seven assists.
Defensively, the Knights had 17 blocks at the net. Bumgardner led the team with seven of those. Libero Kaitlyn Sanstead had 20 digs with a great night on serve receive, Linn said.
This loss brings the Knights overall record to 4-7.
"I'm hoping we will carry this momentum over into tournament play this weekend in Hancock and our Monday night game against Brandon-Evansville," said Linn.
The tournament in Hancock is on Saturday, Sept. 23.
