Volleyball: Chargers beat Hancock in three sets
The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team improved their overall record to 7-6 on Monday night when it won in three straight sets against the Hancock Owls at home.
"Everyone made the next ball better," B-E Coach Kelly Olson said. "After two long matches during the week and a weekend tournament, it was good to get out there and get a win in three."
The Chargers served for the first time all season over 93 percent as a team, Olson said. Senior right hitter Payton Schaefer served 11-11. Setter Madison Quinn served 16-16 and had four aces and senior defensive specialist Allison Sturges served 19-19 and scored four aces.
The first two sets had the Chargers way ahead of the Owls, 25-13 and 25-16. The third set was a little closer, but the Chargers put it away 25-22.
"We spread the ball out a bit more offensively and did a better job of covering tips," Olson said. "We had 32 digs as a team tonight and getting quality touches on defense led to a lot of points out of transition for us."
Quinn had 23 assists and five kills throughout the game. Senior outside hitter Allie Satterlie led the team at the net with 15 kills.
"We had good production out of all players again tonight," Olson said. "Everyone contributed to the win whether as a sub or a starter. It is six out on the floor, but all 11 worked as a team."
The Owls record dropped to 1-6. The only win they've scored this season was against Ashby. The Chargers will play the Ashby Arrows in a Little Eight Conference match in Ashby on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:15 p.m.
