Football: Chargers dominate Warriors 47-6 to move to 2-1
The Brandon-Evansville football team was the first and the last on the scoreboard, earning them a big win when they hosted the Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Warriors on Friday, Sept. 15.
Less than two minutes into the game, running back Jake Hintermeister scored the first touchdown of the night off of a 42 yard run. The kick by Tanner Bitzan was good, bringing the score after the first quarter to 7-0.
That was the start of a dominant performance by B-E as the Chargers won 47-6 to move to 2-1 overall and in the District 9 West (South).
"Tonight was a hard-fought, emotional game," B-E Coach Tim Pattrin said. "The line did a great job picking up blitzers, allowing our backs to break off long runs. Keagan (Schiele) did a great job finding the open receiver and kept the offense moving. The defense played another lights out game and really set the tone for the night."
The Chargers had a big second quarter on offense.
Hintermeister scored another two touchdowns, off of a five-yard run and a 35-yard run. Schiele found running back Nick Thorstad on a 54 yard passing touchdown. Thorstad made an 11 yard run for another touchdown with just one minute left in the half.
The Warriors (0-3) got their first and only score of the night in the second quarter when quarterback Nelson Schmidt made a 48 yard pass to sophomore Sam Stafford for a touchdown. It was still all Chargers at the half with a 33-6 lead.
Schiele found Hintermeister again in the third quarter for a 28 yard passing touchdown. Schiele made the two point conversion run before freshman running back Cade Carlson put the only fourth quarter score up on the board off a nine yard run.
The Chargers put up 499 yards of offense, with 273 of those coming on the ground. Schiele had the best night of his young career as a passer. The sophomore finished 9-of-13 passing for 225 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. Hintermeister led the way on the ground with 114 yards and the three touchdowns on 13 carries.
The Chargers hope for another win when they play Bertha-Hewitt (3-0) in Bertha on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
