Volleyball: Osakis ups its Prairie record to 3-1 with two wins

The Osakis volleyball team started out slow with two set losses to Swanville, but the Streaks rallied and won the final three sets for a 3-2 victory on Thursday night.

It was part of a two-win week for Osakis as the Silverstreaks also took care of Browerville-Eagle Valley in a 3-1 match on Tuesday.

“It was nice to see the girls bounce back from being down two sets and win the next three,” Osakis coach Kirsten Wessel said. “They played with a lot of grit in this match. They proved to themselves that they can make a huge comeback.”

The Silverstreaks’ outside hitter Tianna Stanek led with 14 of the team’s total 56 digs followed closely by defensive specialist Harle Falzone’s 10 digs. Middle hitters Cynthia VanAcker and Maddie Johanson led the team on the net with 11 and 10 of the team’s 36 kills, respectively.

“So many of them can play several positions and can adjust quickly during a match,”

Wessel said. “I’m proud to be the coach of a program that has such great team effort like this.”

Osakis improved its record in the Prairie Conference to 3-1 after also beating Browerville-EV earlier in the week.

The Silverstreaks took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-21. Tigers fought back and took the third, 25-19 but the Streaks claimed the fourth, 25-20.

"It was a good team effort tonight," Wessel said. "The girls are doing a nice job of playing good roles for the team."

Offensively, the Streaks ended the match with 91.4 percent serving, four aces, 21 assists and 33 total kills. Defensively, they had six and a half blocks and 61 digs.

VanAcker led the offense on the net with seven kills, followed closely by Johanson and Faber each with six. Falzone led the back row with 20 of the 61 digs.

"It was nice to get another conference win," Wessel said. "We keep learning and learning to work together."

Osakis has just one match this week as the Silverstreaks host Upsal at 7:30 on Tuesday night.
